The (late) Summer Financial Inclusion News Review
A FIF Quarterly Breakfast Event
Where: Reed Smith, Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose St, London, EC2A 2RS
When: Tuesday, 11th September, 2018; 8:30-10:30am
Who: Blaine Stephens, COO, MIX; and Sam Mendelson (e-MFP & FIF)
Summers – especially oddly Iberian-feeling ones of endless shimmering sunshine like this – can sometimes feel like the rest of the world stops turning, but of course it doesn’t. Plenty has been going on in the financial inclusion sector since we last got together in May for the last Financial Inclusion News Review – the Forum’s quarterly breakfast event. The FINR is a response to a perceived (and since, proven) need among British-based financial inclusion sector observers and practitioners to hear a run-down and round-up of what’s going on across different areas of the sector, and to be able to debate those issues around a table. To not only walk through the news of the intervening months but also preview what’s coming down the pipe during the next quarter, we’re pleased to announce the next event – the (late) Summer News Review – will be held on September 11th.
Besides a summary of interesting news stories in deals, market developments, regulation, research, product innovation, FinTech and the like, as always the Summer News Review will include a ‘deep dive’ into one or two relevant issues of the day. In May, we dug a bit deeper into the Global Findex, published a few weeks earlier, and debated the pernicious gender gap, the role of technology, and scope for building (or focusing more narrowly) on particular trends in financial inclusion. As always, we also followed up on some of the issues and news stories raised in the previous meetings.
There is plenty to talk about again, and we hope you’ll join us, and take the opportunity to weigh in on any particular issues you’d like us to focus on (and feel free to contact us beforehand if there are special items you think deserve attention). We’re pleased to welcome back Blaine Stephens of MIX to present ‘The News’, and Sam Mendelson, a FIF Director and Financial Inclusion Specialist at the European Microfinance Platform, will moderate the event this time round.
Finally, as always all our appreciation to Reed Smith, a long-time supporter of FIF and the sector, for generously continuing to host this series. We hope to see you on September 11th. Spaces are first-come-first-served, and reservation (as well as active participation if you’re there!) is mandatory. If you’d like to come and join us for an excellent breakfast and discussion, please contact Antonella at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to see you there and then.
